Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 14, 2026

ZensInk is an independent project operated by a solo developer. This policy explains what data we handle and how — in plain language.

Two Types of Users

Free CLI users: The tools run on your machine and talk directly to third-party services (Google, Bing, Ahrefs, Brave) and your own Search Console — no data flows to ZensInk servers. Your API keys and credentials never leave your computer.

Paid users (Pro, Lifetime, or Supporter): When you make a purchase, our payment provider shares your email address and a payment confirmation with us. We use this to deliver your license key and manage your access.

What We Collect

  • Your email address (for license key delivery and support)
  • Payment confirmation and order ID (we never see your card details)
  • Your license key and activation status

We do not collect: your real name, precise location, browsing history across other sites, or any data from the free CLI tools. Analytics record approximate country/region derived from your IP address.

How We Use Your Data

  • To deliver and verify Pro package downloads (your download embeds your license key; the download link is a short-lived signed token)
  • To manage Supporter subscriptions
  • To provide customer support if you contact us
  • To prevent license sharing and abuse of the download service

We do not send marketing emails. The only emails you receive are transactional (license key delivery, report delivery, support replies, or subscription confirmations).

Payment Processing

Payments are handled by a third-party Merchant of Record — it processes your payment, handles taxes, and shares your transactional data with its own payment providers. We do not store your credit card number, CVV, or any payment credentials. We only receive your email address and a confirmation that payment succeeded.

Analytics

We use three analytics tools: Umami, a self-hosted, privacy-friendly tool that sets no cookies and does not track you across other websites; Google Analytics, which uses cookies to collect anonymized usage data; and Microsoft Clarity, which records anonymized session replays and heatmaps (mouse movement, clicks, scrolling) to help us fix usability problems. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity only run if you accept analytics cookies; rejecting leaves only cookie-less Umami. You can block any of them with a content blocker.

Third-Party APIs (CLI Tools)

The free CLI tools connect directly from your computer to these services:

  • Google Autocomplete — keyword suggestions (anonymous, no account)
  • Bing Webmaster Tools — search volume (your own API key)
  • Google Search Console — your site search data (your own credentials)
  • Ahrefs (free DR endpoint) — domain rating (your own free API key)
  • Brave Search API — alternative volume estimates (your own key)
  • Serper.dev — SERP data for KD analysis (your own key)

Pro Tools Only

  • Serper.dev — SERP analysis (requires your own API key, stored locally)
  • TypeSafe — semantic audit triage, Jev layer (optional, your own API key)
  • AnySearch — competitor discovery and social search (your own access)
  • Your own LLM endpoint — GEO visibility queries, e.g. DeepSeek (your own API key and base URL)

All API keys and credentials stay on your machine. Nothing is transmitted to ZensInk servers — but the third-party services listed above do see the requests you send them.

White-Label & Multi-Site Reports

The Pro white-label feature (your company name, logo, and colors on generated reports) and the multi-site portfolio mode are configured in local files on your machine. License checks run offline and are honor-based (this is not DRM) — your brand configuration and license key are never sent to us. When you audit client sites, their data flows from your computer directly to the third-party APIs listed above: we never see your reports, but those services see the requests.

Data Retention

Purchase records and your license-key mapping are kept for the life of the key, so you can re-download your package and we can resolve disputes. Order confirmations are kept as proof of purchase where the law requires. Email support@zens.ink to request deletion — we remove your email from our records and keep only a key hash and order ID where retention is required. You may also request a copy or correction.

Who Is Responsible, and On What Basis

ZensInk is an independent project run by a solo developer (the data controller — reachable at support@zens.ink). We process your email and purchase records to perform our contract with you (delivering what you bought), keep records where the law requires, and use analytics only with your consent. Cookies: Umami sets none; Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity set cookies and only load after you accept. Your data may be processed by our payment provider and analytics providers outside your country — we share only what is described above.

Your Rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. If you want to cancel a Supporter subscription, you can do so from the payment provider — access continues until the end of your billing period.
